Naval Hill is situated in Bloemfontein, the capital of the Free State province and birthplace of JRR Tolkien. Bloemfontein, the City of Roses, is part of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality (MMM), with Botshabelo and Thaba ‘Nchu completing the original list of main towns within Mangaung. Dewetsdorp, Soutpan, Van Stadensrus and Wepener are smaller towns which have been added to MMM. As judicial capital, and one of South Africa’s four capitals, Bloemfontein’s population is nearing 345 000 souls, with the total population of Mangaung hovering around 650 000, and counting.
